About the Program
Our Smiths Lake Landcare & Regeneration group is a coordinated volunteer work program run with support of Landcare NSW. Our focus is weed removal, bush regeneration, and bush walking trail maintenance across the Smiths Lake foreshore, village open space, and green space areas.
A rejuvenated volunteer group is carrying out extensive works along our foreshores and green spaces β and enjoying well-earned morning tea and picnic times in some of our most scenic locations. New volunteers are always welcome.

Recent works
Foreshore regeneration β Amaroo Drive
Ongoing works along the Smiths Lake foreshore are restoring native ground cover and protecting the dune line. Maintaining and mulched paths, repairing rope-and-bollard fencing, and progressive replanting are visibly turning the corner on weed pressure in the village open space.

Volunteers working the foreshore zone β mulching, weeding, maintaining trails, and tending new plantings along the lake edge.
Bull Island β fifth visit, Monday 2 March 2026
The group made the short crossing to Bull Island for its fifth dedicated session of weed removal. Repeat visits are doing the work β each round opens the canopy, and lets native species recover ground. Follow up visits clear regrowth.

Western Village Shoreline, along the High Water Trail
The volunteer works have cleared extensive tracts of Lantana, Bitou bush and asparagus fern along our foreshores, in some of our most scenic locations and green spaces.

Western shoreline after the morningβs work β cleared brush stacked, lake views restored.
